Hoan nghênh bạn đã đến với OmegaWiki. Dự án này có nhiều vai trò đối với nhiều người. Mục đích đầu tiên là cung cấp thông tin về các từ trong các ngôn ngữ. Do nguồn gốc của OmegaWiki, nó bao gồm thông tin từ vựng học, ngữ nghĩa, và bản thể học. Thông tin này được giữ trong một cơ sở dữ liệu quan hệ, nên có nhiều cách sử dụng dữ liệu này.
Thông tin được cung cấp trong những ngôn ngữ mà bạn chọn ở trang tùy chọn (cần đăng nhập). Hễ chưa dịch mục từ ra ngôn ngữ của bạn, chúng ta cố gắng hiển thị nó trong tiếng Anh, không có thì trong một ngôn ngữ khác.
Khi nào mà bạn cảm thấy muốn giúp chúng ta mở rộng và cải tiến dữ liệu ở đây, xin đăng ký rồi gắn tiêu bản “Babel” vào trang cá nhân của bạn, để cho chúng ta biết được bạn nói ngôn ngữ nào. Chúng ta lúc nào cũng tìm kiếm những người muốn giúp phát triển phần mềm ở đây. Bộ phần mềm của OmegaWiki dựa trên MediaWiki (phần mềm chạy Wikipedia, Wiktionary...) và cả hai bộ phần mềm được phát hành theo Giấy phép Công cộng GNU (GPL).
Khác với phần mềm ở đây, dữ liệu của chúng ta được phát hành dưới các Giấy phép Tài liệu Tự do GNU (GFDL) và Creative Commons Attribution (CC-by) – hãy chọn giấy phép mà bạn nghĩ hợp nhất đối với mục đích của bạn. Cả hai giấy phép này cho phép bạn sử dụng dữ liệu cho mục đích nào, miễn là bạn ghi công dự án này; ngoài ra, GFDL bắt phải cho phép người khác cũng được sử dụng dữ liệu thoải mái. OmegaWiki chủ yếu là bộ sưu tập sự thật, nên không thể cho là những sự thật này dưới bản quyền ai. Tuy nhiên, OmegaWiki là một bộ sưu tập sự thật dưới bản quyền của cộng đồng. Chúng ta xin bạn ghi công chúng ta để cho thêm người biết đến OmegaWiki và giúp cải tiến dự án.

Within domains, within professions the terminology used is often as bewildering as in a natural language. To appreciate the full depth of a concept it is often necessary to understand it in relation to other concepts as they are understood in that domain. Within OmegaWiki we concentrate on the basis information, in the Wiki for Professionals data specific to the domain will be maintained.
A successful Wiki for Professional will have its own community, it may require specific functionality. This is something that we welcome in our project as long as it fits within the overall environment.

- June 17, 2008 The first results of OmegaWiki mark II are available.
- May 29, 2008 The vocabulary trainer has been added to the main menu of OmegaWiki.. it uses the data from OmegaWiki, so with more and better terminology it will be of more use :)
- May 28, 2008 In Genome Biology, a paper was published introducing the first WikiProfessional. This is exactly what we have been waiting for .. :)

- Christmas eve 2006 We have been presented with part of speech functionality, the best present !!
- December 16 Thanks to developer Leftmostcat, you can now annotate expressions with example sentences.
- December 12 WiktionaryZ is being renamed to OmegaWiki. This is to prevent confusion between this project and the WMF Wiktionary projects.
- October 18 The language selector will now show English or German content. the next step is importing the names in other languages into the UI.
- October 3 Our first real product has been envisioned and is in the works (you can help!): The OLPC Children's Dictionary, a children's dictionary for the OLPC project.
